Cross Country/Track Coach

Duty Schedule:

8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Flexible); Sunday through Saturday; Possible late hours and weekends.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The Coach is responsible for the coordination of the Cross Country and Track Programs. The Coach will administer the fundamental balance and commitment between academic and athletic excellence while demonstrating strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • The Coach will implement program planning, which includes developing a training and practice schedule for both individual and team improvement.
    • Supervision of student-athletes' academic and social status will be an important factor for continued participation in competitions and scholarship incentives.
    • The coach is expected to routinely follow up on student academic progress by mandating grade checks throughout the semester and recommending support services if needed.
  • Ability to build and maintain networking relationships with businesses, organizations, and institutions aimed at benefiting student-athletes, Warrior Athletics, and Dine College.
    • Frequent communication with the United States Collegiate Association (USCAA) is essential to update the team on revised league policies and procedures. Collaborations with Dine College departments and programs to promote student-athlete success and the well-being of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Capable of collecting qualitative and quantitative data on student-athletes that will be utilized for institutional and league reporting.
    • Developing assessments and surveys that will be directed at sports program improvement.
    • Statistical information will be organized into graphs and charts to demonstrate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Monitoring a fiscal budget and being accountable for the distribution of funding to be allocated towards student-athlete registration fees, travel, and other additional expenses.
    • Providing adequate documentation on monetary balances and providing transparent reporting back to the Athletic Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in Cross Country coaching at the following levels:
  • Head Collegiate Coach, Assistant Collegiate Coach, or Head High School Coach. Collegiate-level recruiting experience.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills, following USCAA rules.

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent, combined education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Participation as a student-athlete at the high school or collegiate level.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with functions of Cross Country team practices, rules, and polices under USCAA.
  • Establishes and maintains high standards of student-athletes ' behavior and provides proper supervision of student-athletes at all times.
  • Comprehension of the Diné College's Personnel, Policies, and Procedures Manual, Student Code of Conduct, Residence Life Policies, and the Student Athlete-Handbook.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and moderate computer/technology understanding.

  • Demonstrate commitment to comply with the USCAA and the other college rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and public relations skills.

  • Boosts confidence in student-athletes.
  • Understanding of injury recovery, prevention, and first aid application.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Must be able to withstand harsh weather such as cold and heat.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel with the team and provide undivided attention at all times.

Other Requirement(s):

  • Must have a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Defensive Driving Certification.
  • AED and First Aid Certification.
