We are on the lookout for talented Senior Software Engineers to join our Elasticsearch team. As a Senior Software Engineer in Elasticsearch you will get the opportunity to work on different initiatives, including Elastic Cloud Serverless, new analytics capabilities in ES|QL (our newest query language powered by a new compute engine), and enhancements to efficiently store logs or metrics while providing a great customer experience. What You Will Be Doing Be a full-time Elasticsearch contributor, building scalable new features, fixing intriguing bugs, and increasing testing coverage while keeping the code understandable. You may need to invent a new algorithm or data structure, or work close to the operating system and hardware. Tackle difficult issues, including performance or concurrency problems, and propose solutions. Collaborate openly with the Elasticsearch team, Elastic Stack users, and other open-source projects. You’ll work with community members worldwide on issues and pull requests, triaging or handling them as appropriate. Partner with support engineers on harder problems. Write idiomatic modern Java; Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java. What You Will Bring 6+ years of software engineering experience, highly proficient in Java and familiar with data structures and concurrency concepts in the standard library. 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: vector search, search engine development, query language implementation, or storage-efficient solutions. Solid software engineering fundamentals and strong proficiency in algorithms, with a track record of delivering high-quality solutions. Experience troubleshooting complex issues. High level of autonomy, owning projects from start to finish. The distributed nature of the company offers freedom to work when and how you see fit, while requiring independent work and proactive collaboration when needed. Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra, and understanding of how they work. Bonus Points Experience building with Elasticsearch. Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives. Familiarity with open-source projects and various source control and CI workflows. Past experience with OS or cloud service development. Compensation and Benefits Compensation for this role is base salary with no variable component. The typical starting salary range is listed below and may vary by location and other factors. The salary range for this role is: $128,300—$203,000 CAD . An employee’s position within the range depends on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs.
